Welcome back to my blog post. We are now 75% of the way done with Genius hour!! This week will be thanksgiving break so I am writing this blog post a little early. Sense this week is mainly no school, I hope to dedicate part of my free time to working on our project!! Tonight I am going to see my friend Maddie that goes to West Forsyth and she said she is going to try to bring me a few items to donate so I will have to include a picture if she does bring some things. During the rest of the free time I plan on going through my stuff and finding a few pieces of clothing that could be made to look better. Sense our project is "giving back in style" I plan to try to fix up a few pieces to make them more stylish. I am going to try to put the clothing in a better container or storage so it can be easily sorted into pants, shirts, hats, shoes etc.

Hey welcome back to another blog post! This week during Genius Hour my group came up with a lot of good ideas for the ending of the project. Abby had a great idea of going and getting more warm items such as blankets to donate with our clothing items. We are trying to come up with a time to get together to collect those things and bring all of our donations together to see what we have collected and what we could use more of. Cecily also had a really good idea of maybe making a tik tok to advertise since so many of our peers use that and it would reach a bigger group of people. As for my collecting I feel really good about what I have now and what I will have by the end of the project. I would like to collect more warmer clothing though and also more boys clothing. This picture is my current collection (not including shoes). I think that combined with Abby and Cecily's collection we already have a great amount to be able to donate and i'm really excited about it!! ![]() Towards the end of the collection I came up with the idea of maybe taking a day to go pick up the clothes from my other friends who are wanting to donate since it can be hard to bring those donations to school. I am going to try to come up with a day so I can let them know and they will be able to have everything together by then! Can't wait to move into the holiday season and get more donations from family and friends when I see them! This week I felt like I was very successful with the amount of donations I received. I had a lot of family visit me for my birthday week so when they came they were able to bring some donations as well. These mainly consisted of shirts and a few pants which I now have gotten a lot of!! My collection of clothing so far is pilling up and I know Abby's and Cecily's is too!! In the last few weeks of collection I hope to get more kinds of clothing. During this time of year I know that hats, coats, and scarfs are something that everyone needs so I may ask a few people for those items specifically. I would also like to get more shoes to donate. I know Cecily was able to collect a few this week and I also have a few but I would like to collect more if I can. Boys items are also something that I haven't gotten many of and hope to collect more of. Moving into the second half of the project I'm feeling really good about our end goal!! I think in these last few weeks when we start wrapping up donations is when we will get the most donations because I know a lot of my friends specifically are planning to donate but will probably wait till the last minute to do so. I cant wait to move into the end of this project and get to finally see the result of helping others!!
This week there was not a lot for me to contribute to our project and it was mainly my other group members since I left to go out of town. I tried to do extra last week on my part because I knew this week I wouldn't be able to get much of anything done. However I do feel that this week didn't really hold me back from reaching my groups final goal. Although I was out of town I still was active on social media. I made a post on our Instagram reminding our followers about how much longer they have left to donate and contribute to our project. When I was out of town I was visiting my friend Ashlyn in Florida and she was able to make a donation of a few pieces of clothing while I was there. I hope to be able to contribute more next week!!
Our group made a lot of progress in week 5 of the clothing drive. To start off the week I picked up a donation from my friend Peyton Justice. She was able to donate a lot of pants which we hadn't yet got many donations of. I also got to see my friend Maddie Jackson this weekend and she was able to donate a few items. I have talked to my other friends and should hopefully be able to get their donations in the next couple of weeks. ![]() This week I was also able to get together my donations for the project. I first started by reorganizing my closet and setting aside the things I know I don't want anymore. I also did this with some of the clothing in our other closets. Then I made a final decisions about what to keep and toss and sorted them into bags and boxes. I will be keeping these stored away until time to donate the clothing. It was really nice to get my stuff cleaned out and reorganized and I never would have done it if it wasn't for this cause!! ![]() The last thing I did this week was set up my bin to be able to collect clothing in during the following weeks. I got a laundry basket and hooked the poster we had made to the edge. I will be keeping track of this and the donations I receive from it and will be updating in the following weeks. It's really exciting to see the donations rolling in and the progress we are making, I definitely think we are on track to making an impact and reaching our goal!! |
