Hey guys and welcome back to another week of blogging. This week we came up with a lot of new ideas for getting to collect more clothes. Both me and abby had ideas that we tried out and some even worked!! My idea was to get a tic tok page for ourselves to advertise the drive. We made a few tic toks with our personal pages linked to the rac instagram. It got a few page visits but no donations :( . We got two new donations this week. That was our original goal, to get at least two per week, but it was still a lot less than we expected. I only got one pair of shoes from my sister and I think abby got like a shirt from a friend. The boxes that we set up around the community haven’t been doing very well so I might just bring those in and I think we’ve only got like one or two donations from those which is not ideal. but those two donations still count and are going to help people. This weekend I was scheduled to go volunteer as an in between thing and to check with Mr.Bailey but I couldn’t end up going due to scheduling issues. I might end up going next weekend or the weekend after that just so I can talk with him about when we could bring it in and like to help bringing it in woodwork and like which girls would be getting one and like how to divide them out evenly amongst them. I think we’re going to do like a care package thing like One girl gets the pack of clothes that are her size and a pair of shoes or we could just give them all and they could just choose what they want from the stack so either way works it’s just whatever do you know helps the most that’s it for this week, thank you for reading my blog and i’ll talk to you next week!!!
Hey ya’ll and welcome back to my blog. This week I accomplished a secondary goal I made for myself last week of collecting as many pairs of shoes that I can. I got 5 people to help me and so I got around 10 pairs of shoes. I'm really happy of this accomplishment because of how quickly I got the task done. I knew I wanted to do this because of how cold it's gotten recently and I know people probably have a few pairs of snow boots or cozy shoes that are too small laying around somewhere. This project has been really difficult because at first people were really hesitant on donating because they didn't know if it was legit or not but people warmed up and nowhere way past our original goal. During the weeks coming up I want to start to get all of the things we collected washed and ready for donation because this process of preparing it will take a really long time because washing it will take a lot of loads probably like 10-12 and if the loads are around and hour each thats will take a few days if I don't do it all at once. BUT that also means that were almost done and close to being able to donate! This project has been a really big learning experience for me when it comes to procrastination. In the early stages I would wait a while to have my things out or ask people to donate, but now i'm not as hesitant so its gotten a lot easier on me and my group in the collecting process. Thank you for coming to read my blog post!!! Make sure to check our ig @racclothingdrive and read both reece and abby’s blogs. See you next week!
Hi and welcome back to another week of my genius hour blog!!! This week we took sort of a pause from getting donations from people because of how much we got last week and the week before that just because we wanted to do a little bit of inventory and see all of the stuff that we had collected. So far we have 25 shirts, 15 pairs of pants, (like jeans or leggings mostly), 3 pairs of shoes, and some other miscellaneous items that we mostly likely will just throw into a separate bag away from the others when we deliver the donations later on. Today im goning to evaluating how well our group has worked together over the past 6 weeks. My group has been absolutely incredible we all know lots of different people who have been willing to help us with our project. Like for reece her family is really great at getting things together and abby is good at getting stuff from her volleyball and sports teams and i'm more specific with people at school and getting things from there. My favorite part about this project has been seeing how our individual traits have shined through during the collection stage of our project. For the upcoming weeks my specificity or goal I had in mind for myself is to collect more shoes. I know I want to do this because of how cold it's gotten recently and I know people probably have a few pairs of snow boots or cozy shoes that are too small laying around somewhere. This project has been really difficult because at first people were really hesitant on donating because they didn't know if it was legit or not but people warmed up and nowhere way past our original goal!! Thanks for reading this weeks blog and remember to check out abby and reeces pages!!
Hey guys and welcome back for the 5th week of my genius hour blog! This week we reached our goal for donations which is really exciting!!! We had lots of people donating to us at lunch and Recess family gave her 3 full bags of clothes! This week we got to interact a lot and connect with the community which was one of our goals and we were super happy whenever we got to people who were donating. Abby also got a whole lot of donations this week. We put up bins in the community where we knew people would donate. I put one up in my neighborhood post office that everyone has to go to to get their mail, so it would get a lot of foot traffic. My bin has collected almost no donations but I did get someone throw a candy wrapper in it thinking it was a trash can!! This week I went to Reeces house and saw a lot of her donations. There were a whole lot! We have created another goal for ourselves, shoes! We want to have at least 10 pairs of shoes to donate. This project has been so fun, I have really enjoyed getting to know people and their personal styles like when I had a junior come up to me at lunch and she gave me an old jacket that was personalized already but it didn't look like something she would wear so I asked her about it and she told me about how she completely reinvented her style this summer so she has lots to donate! We haven't gotten as many mens donations as we would like so we're gonna make that a priority next week!! Thank you for reading my 5th week of genius hour blogs and make sure to follow our instagram for updates between blog posts!! @racclothingdrive
Hey ya’ll and welcome back to my blog!! This is the groups 4th week in the genius hour process and it was all about setting more goals and getting the word out. Lately I have felt like we were in sort of a rut because we got a lot of donations the first 2 weeks but then we literally got one donation the 3rd week. So we decide on wednesday to put up some signs wherever we thought would be good to get the word out. I also posted on my facebook so some of my moms friends gave me a few things. Another decision we made this week was that on week 7 we aren't going to accept anymore donations and that's when we’ll revamp them and on week 11 or 12 we’ll finally donate all the clothes we received from people. For the upcoming weeks were hoping to get donations from people out in the community that we don't already know in hopes of getting more donations and having a larger platform to meet people who want to help. This week we made signs during our free period in the media center they had our name, logo, instagram, purpose on it and that's how we’ll advertise some because we felt like we had been doing too much with the instagram and wanted to branch out past just using social media as a marketing tool. We are a third of the way done with the genius hour project and I know that the group feelson track to meet our goals in time for the limits we have time wise. Thank you for reading this weeks genuis hlur blog post!! Remeber to follow our instagram @racclothingdrive and please consider donating to ur cause for Mr.Baileys house of hope bye!!
Hey guys and welcome back for the 3rd week of my genius hour blog! This week we almost reached our goal for donations. We had lots of people donating to us at lunch and Recess family gave her 3 full bags of clothes! This week we got to interact a lot and connect with the community which was one of our goals. Abby also got a whole lot of donations this week. We put up bins in the community where we knew people would donate. I put one up in my neighborhood post office that everyone has to go to to get their mail, so it would get a lot of foot traffic. Next week I plan on posting on facebook to get some donations. Only my moms friend follow me on there and they care so I know they'll help me. I'm also meeting up with my moms best friend soon and she always gives me clothes she doesn't want anymore so that will get us some donations. This week in class mr.barker mentioned that this week we will have been a quarter of the was done with the project and I feel like my group and myself have done a lot more than a quarter of the project because we are almost done collecting but we also still need to upcycle the clothes and that will take a week or two. Next week I plan on getting the donations together and seeing exactly how much we have and what the individual pieces need to be altered and what we can do to make them cuter and more versatile. Thank you for reading and I hope you'll check out our instagram @racclothingdrive. Come back next week to see more blog posts about our genius hour project and how you can get involved!!
Hi everyone and welcome back for the second week of the genius hour process!! This week was all about organization and prep for the drive. We found out this week that there are a lot of things that factor into organizing a successful clothes drive and there are a lot of hoops you have to jump though to our over all goal. We plan to put up baskets out in the community at individual locations that we have connections to. Mine will be at the post office in my neighborhood because I know that every single resident has to go there every couple of days so it will get a lot of foot traffic. WE GOT OUR FIRST DONATION THIS WEEK!!!! This is so great for us. It was a blue abercrombie shirt brought in by our friend eli! Our instagram is about to hit 150 followers thanks to reece she's really good at social media and that sort of things for the project. We plan to do the majority of the drive in 2 or 3 weeks. We might need an extra week for organization because it's really hard to get all of the elements we need together to have a successful drive and reach our ultimate goal. This week taught me a whole lot about what i want to be for our overall goal. We also created a spreadsheet for people to fill out when they want to donate we decided to start to gear toward all clothes instead of just girls clothing because everyone needs help. The spreadsheet is getting some entries but we are looking for more next week. It will help us a lot with organization and donating will be a lot easier. Thank you all so much for reading and remember to check out our instagram for updates. See you next week!!
Hello and welcome to my first blog post! This week 1 of the project and Abby, Reece and I are off to a great start. We jumped head first in trying to get our genius hour project up and running as soon as possible.
This week we set up our instagram page to get the word out about getting clothing donations. Making the instagram was really fun because we got to talk about ourselves and what we like and our lives. On the donation side of the project to help us build our collection to donate I went through my closet and got about ten items that I could give toward the project. I think I have some really great items. My favorite one that I think will be the most beneficial is this white collared shirt that would be really great for a job interview or college meeting. It is also unisex so both guys and girls could get use out of it! Going through my old clothes was really fun and ill probably do it multiple times in the weeks to come. I think another goal that we could set up for the project would be winter jackets or coats a focal point because of the recent drop in temperature where we are. I thought of this because as soon as it got cold me and my sister went to target to get some new warmer clothes for fall and I was thinking about the project and how a lot of girls in Davie properly wouldn't have the opportunity to do this and get a new coat for the season. So im glad that I can do this project and give back directly to my community to girls and guys that really need it. This week I also got approval from the HOSA club for sponsorship so YAY!! Thank you for reading and I'll see you next week. |
