![]() This week My group and I planned for receiving more donations. All of us recontacted our friends about donating and came up with a list. This list included everyone that has already donated, who said they will be bringing us, and who we are waiting on a response from. This will help us keep track of what we have got and who we still need to contact. We also decided this week for each of us to be responsible for setting up a bin in a location of our choice outside of school to reach people other than our peers. During genius hour this week we designed posters to put up places and to go with our bin's so people will be able to find our social medias and get more information about our drive. This weekend I also started going through my own clothes and also my family's with my mom to try to figure out what stuff I'm going to donate to the drive. I plan on getting everything together in the next week. I've also had people from the list tell me that they will be getting their stuff together over the weekend and bringing to me together this week. I think we are definitely on track to reach our goal, we're just going to have to wait for everyone to get their stuff together and bring it to us!

Beginning collectionsThis week I focused on contacting my family to get donations. At the start of the week I messaged family members telling them about my clothing drive project and asked them if they would be wanting to donate anything. Two of my cousins and my aunt replied instantly and said they had a lot they would donate. We scheduled a time and place to be able to meet them and pick up the clothing. The other family members I reached out to did want to contribute but I will have to find a later date to meet with them. On Tuesday I met my aunt to get the clothing she had. She lives in Greensboro so I had to drive to meet her halfway. The following day my cousins brought their donations when they came to visit my grandma who lives directly across from me. They love shopping and fashion so they were able to make a big donation!! ![]() This is my mom and friend Cassidy helping me go through the donations I got this week!! I am also still working on getting in donations from our google forms and my friends are working on getting their clothing together to donate. I think we are on track at this point in the project and I hope next week to get more donations in from the people I asked and reach out to people at my church and youth-group!! PreparingThis week was focused on planning out how we are going to be receiving our donations and getting the word out there. In order to have people be able to contact us when they have clothes to donate us I worked on creating a google form. Anyone who wants to donate can fill this out showing information about what they plan to donate and how they will get it to us. This should hopefully help us keep track of all of our donations so we can see our progress in the weeks moving forward.
During this weeks genius hour time we also came up with another plant to receive clothing. Each of us in the group will be picking a location to set up a type of donation "drop off". We will each be in charge of our box where people can easily drop off their donations. We will be making posters to Advertise that we will be setting up the boxes ahead of time and then have about a week for people to actually bring their clothing by. We thought this would be a really easy way to reach people in different places in our community outside of our school. This week I also spent a lot of time telling people about my project and asking them to donate, I got a lot of positive responses so I am really excited to start getting donations from my peers!! We also received our first donation using the google form toward the end of the week so I cant wait for week 3 when we will hopefully have more! Hi Welcome to my genius hour blog! I will be updating it with weekly posts by every Sunday. These blog posts will show my progress throughout the next 12 weeks. This project is really important to me because I always love to give back to those around me so genius hour gives me the perfect opportunity to do that. I feel like with school, sports, clubs, church and other responsibility's it is hard to find time for things your passionate about so I'm really glad to be getting to use time in and out of school to work towards something meaningful to me!!
Week #1 was kind of a slow start but the ending of the week shows we are on pace. Since our project heavily relies on the participation and donations of others this week was getting set up to be able to reach others. In order to be able to advertise and reach people around the school we chose a club to be able to sponsor out project and donations. We decided HOSA was a great club to contact since Cecily was a member and we got their approval! Now we will be able to spread the word to our peers through posters and information so that people can get involved! I plan to work on these posters in the first weeks of the project. Social Media This week was also heavily filled with setting up our social medias so that people will have another way to know about us and contact us. One way was through this website which I spent alot of time setting up in the past week. We decided the most efficient way to reach our peers and people in our community was by creating a Instagram account. This will provide a platform for people to ask questions or learn about who we are. I also have created a clever logo that will be able to be used on future posters or advertising for our club!! I have also began to shout us out on my own personal social media pages and have asked my acquaintances if they would think about donating clothing. I think we are currently on a good pace for getting people involved and reaching our goal. In the next weeks I plan to continue keeping up with the social media and design posters and handouts to raise awareness. I also would like to set up a easy but accessible donation process so we can keep track of who gave what in maybe a google form or something like it. I will also be taking pictures of these donations to show our progress. I cant wait to keep updating you week by week and see how far we come!! |
